Eventually, yes. There is no doubt that this planet will die. The sun will die out, our planets magnetic field will fail and we will bake, the list goes on.

well, this earth could use rebirth. think about it, there are ancient advanced civilizations. it's bound to happen that we will kill eachother and the survivors will start a new civilization, with a new style of living.

the thing is, it doesn't really matter. not gonna happen soon. like, is there really an afterlife? it doesn't matter to debate it, cause we won't find out till we die.

5. The End of the World

Nostradamus first wrote of the end of the world in his famous letter to Henry II. You can read this letter in its entirety in Part 5, Section 11 of this book.

“Then the great empire of the Antichrist will begin where Attila and Xerxes descended (Central Asia and Persia/Iran)—in numbers great and countless, so many that the coming of the Holy Ghost, proceeding from the 48th degree will make a transmigration, driving out the abomination of the Antichrist [who is] making war against the Royal who will be the great Vicar of Jesus Christ, and against his Church, and his reign for a time and to the end of time.”

“And this will be preceded by a solar eclipse more dark than any since the creation of the world..., and there shall be in the month of October some great movement and transference and it will be such that one will think that the Earth has lots its natural movement, and that it will be plunged into the abyss of perpetual darkness; there will be initial omens in the spring, and extraordinary changes in rapid succession thereafter, reversals of kingdoms and mighty earthquakes, with the increase of the new Babylon..., augmented by the abomination of the first Holocaust, and it will last no less than 73 years and 7 months...”

“And then great peace will be established, union and concord between the children of the frontiers who have been gathered and separated by diverse reigns...”

There are also specific quatrains, reading much like the Book of Revelatons, that describe the aftermath of some kind of holocaust triggered by the battle of Armegeddon that pits the Chinese against Americans.

These quatrains appear to pick up after a bomb has been dropped and others suggest climate changes and changes in the earth’s position in the heavens.

For forty years the rainbow will not appear;
For forty years it will be seen every day:
The arid earth will grow more dry,
And great floods when it will be seen.

(Century 1, Quatrain 17)

This quatrain speaks of an extreme climate change. Many have interpreted it to mean that the earth will shift on its axis

You will see, sooner and later, great changes made,
Extreme horrors and vengeances:
For as the moon is thus led by its angel,
The heavens draw near to the reckoning.

(Century 1, Quatrain 56)

This quatrain suggests that horrors will be near as the moon appears closer to the earth. It might somehow describe the destruction of the moon as it is led by its angel towards a day of reckoning.

Pestilences extinguished, the world becomes smaller,
For a long time the lands will be inhabited in peace:
People will travel safely through the sky (over) land and wave:
Then wars will start anew.

lmao now you guys can argue over nostradamus

Due to the polar cap melting and the increasing heat, scientists predict the world will end somewhere near 2050 at the rate were going.

You watched 'The day after tomorrow' one too many times.

No, we'll outlive 2050. I don't care what scientist you think says that.

Eventually yes, the earth will die. The sun will roast it when it dies and all that will be left of the earth will be a cold desolate rock with no water or atmosphere.

It's 2007. we have roughly 5.4 billion years to go, give or take a billion.

In the year 5,000,200,7 We can worry about it being too late.

My guess is that we'll have a contingency plan by then.

NASA has timelined the beginning of a lunar operations base by 2020. To start developing asteriod skyhooks by 2075, land a man on Mars in 2040, and have a Mars base fully functional by 3000. In a billion years? I don't think humanity in its entirity will die out by that means.

That's to say earth survives that long. Given the armageddon strike possibilities between now and then. (comets, asteriods, meteors, etc) Who knows. We'll collide with the Andromida galaxy before the Sun dies too, that'll be nifty.

Factor in humans. Resource exhaustion, overpopulation, inhumane wars against each other...

What it -really- comes down to is what your definition of 'world' is

Sizes NOT to scale, remember that.

When hydrogen fusion exhausts itself of all hydrogen to burn, the sun will shrink. Compacting the mass in plasma that it has will cause a increase in gravitational pull, and such factors mixing together will ignite helium fusion, the next elemental step. However such a new fuel consumption process will expand the sun at a rate to which it will consume Mercury and Venus while pushing the Earth farther back in it's orbit. This is about the time everyone dies. Water boils, etc. etc. See: 'Mercury, currently'

Helium fusion isn't stable at that low of a mass (being a 'fake' red giant and all) will not last long, the sun will start to shed it's layers of helium plasma (to which the earth may or may not get hit by one. If so, incineration of half our planet there. If not, then all that will be left is a super heated white core (white dwarf star) to burn out and cool off for the next billion years. Earth becomes a cold lonely dead planet.

Have a nice day. Smile

However to PKB, our iron core will remain in one piece, and will continue to rotate as it still does, so our Magnetic field should remain unchanged Wink

On Nostradamus; all those predictions are EXTREMELY vague and are often proven "right" by postdiction.

Is the world gonna end? Hell yes. Is it gonna end soon? Maybe. Are there going to be some definite changes in our lifestyle within the next 10 years? Fuck yeah.

I'd like to gaze in the direction of 2010-2012, as the Sun puts out an intense magnetic storm and fucks up a lot of our equipment such as cellphones and satellites. Of course there are 1 billion+ predictions as to apocalyptic stuff happen around that time (such as the Mayan calendar ending), this is really the only one we can count on for sure...

Didn't say it would split, rather cool. Once the iron core of a planet cools the planet dies (because the magnetic field dies). Some think it is near the end, just something interesting I brought up.
