| Essentially a film movement started by Lars van Trier and Thomas Vinterberg as an attempt to "balance the playing field" in a world where big budget special effects have allowed movies to be made with low quality plots and acting but still be a commercial success. For a film to be considered a Dogme 95 film it has to meet 10 criteria, known as the Vows of Chastity. I think this is a great idea, because too many movies right now rely on cheap gimmicks to manipulate the audience, even though there is no substance in the plot/acting. For an example of this, try listening to the soundtrack to "The Grudge", then watch the actual movie with the sound off...the soundtrack is actually scarier than the movie! Discuss the awesomeness of this movement. | |
