the crusades MAIN goal was to take back jerusalem. of course though, politics and economics played in. but think of this, they killed anyone who wasn't christian during it, encouraged by the leaders of the crusades. obviously, this was for fanatical purposes.

not that i condone the crusades, i find them important. i just find it blasphamous to say that the catholic church encouraged genocide of innocents mainly because they wanted more money.

Seeing as they killed Christians that did everything they were supposed to, but were rich in gold, logic dectates that indeed the Catholic church did do this for economical and political gain.

that is actually a matter of opinion, because, that issue is diverse. i think that the catholic church kills for religious beliefs, you think the catholic church kills for economical reasons.

one point that i know you have to agree with though is that that was not what happened for the first few crusades.
although, keep in mind, the sixth and on crusades didn't even use church consent.
