meh, i don't think we should have to. we've got allies because they know it's the smart thing to do... but they don't actually like us. although, we do have more pro-american allies then before.

hell, world leaders actually like us. and putin, who's one of those crazy radicalist totalitarians has actually tried to appeal to Bush.

of course, we also have people who hate us, like mahmoud, chaves, castro, and kim jong il. w/e. just hire CIA agents to kill them all. no one will ever know...

You do realize that one of the big reasons we ARE in everyone's business is because when all the big alliances and trade agreements were made after World War II they all wanted/needed the U.S. to be part of them in order for the thing to have any ability of enforcement and lasting. And I mean really small ones and big ones in countries and areas that it didn't even make sense for us to be a part of and did us no benefit to be a part of.
Essentially everyone wanted us to take the role of being their police, peace keepers, and body guards until they got tired of us. They just now don't want us to use that influence and instead sit quietly at the side until they ask us to do something, and if we do that, then the other side will say the same thing.
