I've been thinking about the pros and the cons of gun control. Should we allow guns to be sold to the general public, or should we ban firearms entirely from teh civillian populace?. Would it lead to a higher or lower crime incidence?.

You ban guns, and only criminals will have them.

That, and I refuse to give up my guns. I need them to protect myself, my family, and my livestock from dangerous animals/people.

All that, and they have been passed down through my family, and have much meaning to me.

no but seriously PKB has a good point, you ban guns but criminals will still have them. plus alotta people wouldn't give'em up anyway. so it realy wouldn't matter weather you ban'em or not.

Anyways, I'm at the part where I have to argue about a scenario where guns are banned versus a scenario where guns are made available to the general public. I plan to use the recent shooting at Virginia Tech as a case study.

My argument is this; If security had more resources and firearms available - would it have saved lives?.

well, if you watch those slasher films, no one ever has a gun with them. that's why they fuckin' die. if more people carried a gun, these serial killers wouldn't get away with shit like that.

MY OPINION: everything is fine as it is. there shouldn't be a law against this. Guns were made to kill. Besides guns don't kill people. The one handling the gun is the killer.

That said, I'm for it. Guns are like drugs and making them illegal won't necessarily cut down the rate

They did a study involving a Texas town who made it a requirement to have a concealed handgun license per household

vs.

A town (... crap mind blanking... midwest, iowa maybe, don't quote me on that) who banned guns out right period, even licensed and proper.

Guess which town had the lower crime rate (minor and major)

I love Texas so much right now...

But seriously, that was my opinion on the matter the hole time.

just make sure people are smart and responsible enough to handle a gun and the more good people with guns the less bad alive. the "bad people" as i will refer to them will get guns anyway they need cause if you were gonna join gangs kill people and rob people and commit crimes you would want to do it the most efficient way a gun, and guns already exist so give them to smart responsible people and hope they dont use them stupidly

Well you have to think of it. The people who get their guns legally aren't really the make up of gun violence in this nation. Those who get their guns from owners of legal guns are less than half of what the gun violence is actually made up of, those who illegally get their guns. And if it's already illegal, banning gun control isn't really going to help -that- much, is it?
